  • Catherine Giannitto - Pilates & Power Plate Instructor

    Catherine has many years of training experience, both as a dance instructor (8 yrs) and for 13 years as a consultant/instructor of various IT systems in the corporate arena. Catherine comes from a sporting background including swimming, netball, basketball, athletics, softball, touch football and volleyball.

    Catherine discovered Pilates in 2000 and decided to obtain formal qualifications after sustaining a back injury in a motor vehicle accident, Catherine now practices what she preaches, using Pilates to alleviate an arthritic condition in her spine. She understands first hand the benefits of Pilates and how it can benefit your health in all areas, particularly the improvement in posture, flexibility and strength.

    Catherine is heavily involved in the Pilates community in Australia, being a committee member of the Pilates Alliance of Australasia. She understands the importance on-going training and keeping up to date with the latest rehabilitative techniques. The Alliance aims to promote quality and integrity amongst instructors/studios encouraging safe and skilled implementation of the Pilates Method to the general public.

    Director of Curriculm for Polestar Pilates Australia

    Dav has over 15yrs experience in the Pilates world, having studied with some of the well-known Masters in the USA. He is a physiotherapist with a strong background in rehabilitation as well as sports performance enhancement and is an avid surfer and mountain biker. A gifted instructor, Dav is able to work effectively with novice students, professional athletes and experienced Pilates professionals – leaving each with greater knowledge of their bodies as they increase their strength, mobility and awareness. He has been a Principal Educator and Examiner with Polestar Pilates Education since 1997 and is currently Director of Curriculum and Educator Development worldwide. Dav conducts Pilates teacher training workshops and seminars locally and internationally.

    Dav has returned to Manly and PowerNouse after a two year break in Denver USA. He is now married to an Aussie lady and is an avid mountain biker, snowboarder, surfer and SCUBA diver.

    Vanessa Malone is a registered Sydney Osteopath.  She completed her Diploma in 1982 and has since run a number of successful practices in the CBD and suburbs of Sydney. She currently works part time at The Yoga Room and Life Centre in St Ives and has joined the Powernouse team teaching studio pilates.

    Years of using different exercise principles to help patients rehabilitate from pain and injuries led Vanessa to study Polestar Pilates for rehabilitation. She has found that the combination of Osteopathy and Pilates is exceptional for development of core strength, joint articulation and stabilization, and for improving posture, flexibility, balance and coordination. It helps with the prevention of injury and the overall maintenance of good body health.

    Amy graduated as a physiotherapist from Hertfordshire University in the UK in 2005 and came to Australia in 2008.  After working in the Royal London teaching hospital in the UK she brings a wide variety of experience in treating all musculoskeletal conditions.

    Amy came across Pilates after injuring her own back and having a spinal operation.  Pilates has helped her enormously and she has never looked back.  Amy’s passion is using these Pilates skills and Physio knowledge in rehabilitating her clients from injuries.

    Amy has also completed specialised training in the treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction in women. Her particular interest is treating pre and post natal women who suffer with incontinence and pelvic instabilities.

    Audrey's career path has seen her travel extensively and work in the areas of Airline service and Hospitality. With a strong ballet background, and having taught in the fields of dance and aerobics, Pilates was a natural progression for Audrey after the birth of her daughter in the late 90’s.

    Through continued education and dynamic mentors, Audrey brings a supportive and enthusiastic energy to Powernous. By applying Pilates principles and philosophy, Audrey loves being able to help people achieve the positive changes they seek.

  • Karen Lee - Pilates & Power Plate Instructor

    Karen first discovered pilates  in an effort to become fit after the birth of her second child. Over the course of 4 years she found her posture,  muscle  strength and body awareness improved way beyond any expectation. Pilates helped her prepare and recover from a kidney donation that she gave to her sister. Previously, Karen  qualified as an aerobics instructor with VICFIT in Melbourne before moving to Sydney. It was this early introduction to the fitness industry and her passion for Pilates that allowed Karen to persue her training in becoming a Pilates instructor.

    The decision to seek more knowledge led Karen to studying Anatomy and Physiology at Nature Care College, gaining a distinction in Anatomy 1a. At the same time she became a qualified studio instructor after completing the course with Polstar International.

    Karen has a strong commitment to continue gathering knowledge  and experience in the Pilates field. To bring this knowledge into the class for each individual and  to ultimately enhance their physical + mental balance.

    Marina is originally from Brazil where she graduated in Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 2003 and specialised in Postural Rehabilitaton. She has had experience working with sport team( surfers and runners) and also neuro paediatric rehab.

    In 2005 she moved to Australia where she has been working in a rehabilitation hospital over the past 3 years.

    Marina is passionate about surfing and dancing and general health from physical activity prospective.

    She has caring personality , loves helping , always in good mood and smile in her face. She is very determined, motivated and open to learn.

    Marina became Pilates instructor through her interest in learning about healing her body naturally.

    She firmly believes in the balance of physical activity and self well being. She loves to challenge ,motivate and inspire people to phisically be and do the best they can.

    Liana comes to Pilates and Gyrotonic with an extensive background in gymnastics and modern dance. Liana’s experience dates from the age of four leading her to national level competitions in Europe in rhythmic gymnastics and later performing modern dance whilst progressing through university.

    Liana has achieved a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) with High Distinction average grade and also a Master of Finance from the University of New South Wales with Distinction average grade. Following these studies Liana moved into corporate world working 2 ½ years in management consulting with APRA and a year as an equity analyst for Merrill Lynch.

    After moving to Hong Kong in 2005 Liana seriously turned her attention to Pilates, Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis. Calling on her background of five years of private studies in Pilates during her corporate career, Liana was convinced of its merits in maintaining correct postural alignment and the flow-on benefit to overall health. After receiving her qualifications in 2006-7, Liana was teaching private sessions and group classes in a number of Hong Kong Pilates and Gyrotonic studios.

    Liana is the proud mother of a one-year old daughter. Experiencing pregnancy has given Liana an even deeper perspective of the importance of Pilates and Gyrotonic as a rehabilitation tool.

    After several years travelling and working overseas, Amanda began her massage career in 1998 in Brisbane, working for Day Spas and five star hotels. After making the move to Sydney in 2002, working for the innercity hotels, and massaging such people as Mel Gibson and Russell Crowe, she now freelances doing mobile remedial and Sports Massage, and is the Massage Therapist for the Manly Rugby Union Club. Through her experience gained working in various places, Amanda is recognized for her ability to identify specific problem areas and treat according to her clients individual needs.

    Amanda’s passion for Pilates began in 2001 when she was first introduced to this amazing work and experienced firsthand at how it transformed and toned her body shape. But being involved in the corporate world, opportunities to change career were slim.  However, since relocating from South Africa to Australia in mid 2008, she was fortunate enough to realize her dream of focusing on a more rewarding, holistic approach to life balance.  Amanda has completed both Mat & Reformer certification through Polestar Pilates and is currently studying towards their Diploma of Professional Pilates Instruction.

    Amanda believes that the body was designed to move and that the mind, with the correct guidance, has the ability to assist in strengthening the body.  She encourages her clients to feel the joy in freedom of movement as well as growing stronger with each session.

    Having trained as a dancer since she was five years old, which led to her early career in the dance world, it was a natural progression that Prue fell in love with Pilates when first introduced to it in 2001. Leaving the dance world behind that same year, Prue moved into the fast-paced world of publicity and is now the owner and director of a specialist arts PR agency.

    Fitness and wellbeing have continued to impassion Prue’s life, with ongoing training in the foundations of Pilates, Yoga and Group Fitness. She completed her Cert 3 in Group Fitness Training in 2005 and the Polestar Diploma of Pilates Instruction in 2009.

    Transitioning from the corporate world to motherhood was always going to be a turning point in Sarah’s life. After the birth of her first child she decided to leave a career in financial services and turn her passion into a new career  - Pilates.

    Helping people achieve their goals has been a constant throughout her career. Training with Polestar Pilates gave her a wealth of hands on experience and empowerment to help people achieve their physical goals.

    Sarah has been practicing Pilates since 2003 and it has never failed her – helping her participate in half marathons, adventure racing and triathlons without injury and keeping her body strong and supple through two pregnancies.

    Lissie's passion for Pilates started in 1988 when her mother injured her ankle and was rehabilitated with some simple Pilates exercises recommended by a Physiotherapist. Impressed with the rapid and successful recovery rate, she decided to expand her interest in Pilates through community college course. Practising the "New York Style" Pilates for many years, Lissie came to PowerNouse Pilates in 2002 and was introduced to Polestar Pilates by Catherine Giannitto.

    In 2007 it was timely that Lissie studied the mat qualification and started teaches classes in 2008. Lissie's background is an 18 year career in fashion styling for TV, magazines and celebrities.

    "Pilates was my stress release and a way to stay physically strong to carry all those frocks around from location to location. Long days on set led to back problems, so Pilates was my saviour."

    Vanessa comes from a dance and performing arts background.  She trained in various forms of dance from a young age in her home town of Port Macquarie before moving to Sydney to study at the Brent Street School of Performing Arts.

    Due to recurring knee injuries and back issues Vanessa shifted her focus from performance to teaching, she also started working as a dental nurse for a dentist specialising in TMJ dysfunction (jaw problems).  While travelling and working in the UK a physiotherapist recommended she try Pilates to help her injuries and alleviate back pain. She began taking classes at Pilates on the Square in London and soon realised the benefits that the pilates “lengthen and strengthen” technique gave to her body.  It also gave her the challenge of co-ordinated movement and form that she missed from dancing but without the injuries.

    On returning to Sydney she continued taking classes, completed the Anatomy & Physiology 1A at Nature Care College (with distinction) and began her pilates instructor training.

    Instructing enables Vanessa to combine her love of working with people, passion for disciplined exercise and attention to detail into helping others fully realise and achieve their pilates goals. Vanessa believes that the breath pattern used and level of concentration needed for correct technique focuses and therefore calms the mind.

    Vanessa teaches at various locations on the North Shore including for the Manly Warringah Community College.  She is very happy to be part of the dedicated, fun loving Powernouse team! Vanessa also works in a holistic dental practice in Neutral Bay which has extended into a health and wellbeing centre offering yoga and Pilates.

  • Julie Flowers - Pilates & Power Plate Instructor

    Julie first discovered Pilates in an effort to regain her fitness after the birth of her child.   While practicing Pilates, she found her posture, muscle strength, core control and body awareness improved way beyond any expectation.  Julie has been actively involved in fitness since the late 80’s.  In 1993, she competed in the United States of America’s National Tae Kwon Do Championship Tournament and placed second in the Women’s division.  Julie went on to earn her Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do in 1994.  It was this early introduction to fitness training and her passion for Pilates that inspired Julie to pursue her education and become a Pilates Instructor.

    Having practiced law in Australia and the United States since 1994, Julie was not a novice to hard work and lots of studying.  With a desire to change careers, while still focusing on helping others, Julie turned towards a career as a Pilates Instructor.

    The decision to seek more knowledge led Julie to study Anatomy and Physiology at Nature Care College, gaining a high distinction in the subject.  At the same time, she completed her course work through Polestar International to become a Pilates Instructor for mat and allegro classes, as well as, studio work.  Julie has a strong commitment to continue gathering knowledge and experience in the Pilates field.  To bring this knowledge into the class for each individual and to ultimately enhance their physical and mental balance is Julie’s goal.
    Julie began using the Power Plate in 2008.  She had such a positive experience with it, she went on to get her level I and II certificates in 2009.  Julie has watched the changes the Power Plate has made in her clients over the past two years.  She is a firm believer in the benefits of using the Power Plate and is excited to continue making a difference in others health.
    Julie’s experiences as a mother, elite sportsperson and lawyer culminate in her ability to understand and teach each student at the level they need to reach their goal.  Julie currently teaches in a variety of studios, schools, retirement centres and corporate offices on the North Shore.

    Tanya stepped into her first yoga class 10 years ago and began a lifelong journey of discovery. She has explored many aspects of yoga, practicing and learning with teachers from different lineages and traditions, including Ashtanga, Anusara, Jivamukti, Kundalini and Traditional Hatha. In 2007, Tanya completed her teacher training at the Samadhi Centre for Yoga in Denver, Colorado. She has continued her studies in the US and Australia, further developing her understanding of Yogic history, philosophy, anatomy, physiology and teaching methodologies.

    While she revels in the outdoors, enjoys many sports and loves music, Tanya has found yoga is the one thing that can always restore stillness and calm in her life. She hopes to share all she has learned from her teachers, to help others understand the wonders and diversity of this ancient tradition.

  • Mari Notaras - Yoga Instructor

    Mari has been working in the health and fitness industry for over 15 years with the last 10 years as a yoga teacher. During this period Mari also successfully established and operated her own yoga studio until 2005, just prior to the birth of her first child.
    Mari teaches traditional Hatha Yoga as well as Pre and Post-Natal Yoga. She has studied and has been strongly influenced by prominent yoga teachers such as Eve Grzybowski, TKV Desikachar, Bikram Choudhury, Judith Hanson Lasater, Donna Fahri and Janice Clarfield. Mari has also completed a Teaching Diploma of Yoga from the International Yoga Teachers Association of Australia (IYTA) and is a member of the Yoga Teachers Association of Australia. She has also studied remedial massage and sports therapies with Nature Care College in Sydney.
    Mari is passionate about people taking responsibility for their overall well-being, and believes that the ancient time tested system of yoga is a valuable tool which helps create both inner and outer balance and harmony in people’s lives.  Mari teaches an energized and dynamic yoga class always adapting to her students capabilities and needs. Her classes suit both beginners and intermediate students.

  • Dominqiue Rohan - Gyrotonic Instructor

    With a background in Science, Dominique’s interest in Pilates began in her early teens.  As a young ballet student, Dominique was used to ‘working out’ on various machines whenever injured, and only later found out that these were in fact Pilates Studio machines.  The benefits of Pilates were very much part of Dominique’s fitness regime – well before Pilates was cool.

    After the birth of her child in 1999, an old horse-riding injury caused Dominique to turn back to Pilates, where tried and true systems quickly allowed her to regain her fitness and continue modelling.  She subsequently trained in London with the Body Control Pilates Association® as well as some of the world’s most respected Pilates elders Dominique and her family then moved back to Sydney in 2004.

    Whilst in the UK, Dominique was introduced to Gyrotonic® and very quickly found Gyrotonic®’s benefits complemented her Pilates work.  She found that after training in Gyrotonic® in Sydney, she was able to progress more quickly to the advanced Pilates repertoire.

    Dominique’s empathy and experience affords her a deep understanding of the body and what it takes to keep looking and feeling good!

    Nicole completed her beauty therapy training at The French Academy of Advanced Beauty Therapy in 1988 after achieving the highest grades possible in both Australian & International examinations. Nicole has since been extensively involved in both teacher training and product training, as well as completing her postgraduate studies in massage and the cause and treatment of acne and other skin aliments.

    It was in 1995 that Nicole opened her beauty salon in Manly, which she has successfully managed for the past 15 years, developing a fine reputation for superior service and treatments, coupled with an intimate and personalised approach.

    With an avid interest in health and wellness, Nicole believes the body and skin is an external reflection of a person’s overall health. Her ongoing interest in Yoga, Pilates and meditation, are additional elements which she brings to each of her clients treatments.

    Nicole offers a wide range of deluxe treatments including relaxation massage, facials and face/skin consultation, as well as general beauty treatments of waxing, tinting, manicures and pedicures.

    Vickie has had a career in IT and Portfolio and Project management in corporate Australia for over 20 years.  She has always had a strong interest in the interconnection of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual energy systems of our bodies and has studied a number of energetic healing techniques including Reiki, Meditation and Shiatsu.

Megan has developed a deep tissue, sports style of massage and is interested in helping you to re-align your body. Having also specialised in Pregnancy Massage (with a table to lie on your stomach), Megan has a very nurturing style. In 2002 Megan completed training in Pilates Matwork and has enjoyed years of experience in Yoga.
